Digimon Adventure tri -Reunion-

Seven young kids go to camp for the summer, Wind up livin' in the digital land. Where everybody gets to meet his own Digimonster, a digital companion, a digital friend. A Digimon in training will Digivolve to rookie, and digivolve to champion and ultimate too. I'm gonna save the digital world for me. I'm gonna save the digital world for you. Then you fast forward three years and BAM! Digimon Adventure tri. The anime has been confirmed as a six-part series of films serving as a direct sequel to the first two season of the Digimon anime. The new anime also celebrates the franchise's 15th anniversary and has gotten fans all giddy and peeing their pants with excitement (i.e. Vivi). This review will cover the first of the six movies titled "Digimon Adventure tri: Reunion"

Plot: Three years after the conclusion of Digimon Adventure 02, Taichi (Tai) is now in high school and beginning to feel all his friends, the original eight DigiDestined, are drifting apart. While on his way to his soccer game, Tai spots a familiar looking Digimon flying around and causing all electronic devices in the the area to malfunction. Determined to get to the bottom of the monster's sudden appearance he follows but soon finds himself in a dangerous pinch. Just as Taichi is cornered, his Digivice shines and his old partner Agumon appears while digivolving into Greymon to fight the stronger enemy. The battle escalates and causes massive damage to the city. Soon after all eight DigiDestined children are reunited with their parter Digimon and begin preparations to battle against a barrage of mysteriously strong, and extremely dangerous, Digimon.

2girls_1up review: We'll just put it out there now; if you're a fan of the Digimon franchise -any season from any time- then do yourself a HUGE favor and watch this, while also looking forward to the movies yet to come! *Ahem* For those of you not as obsessed as Vivi, the rest of this review is for you.

To begin, the story could be very confusing to someone who has never seen Digimon. There is almost no background explanation on who the characters are, were, or how things work. This is understandable, as it is being considered the "third season" and immediately follows the events of the first two 50+ episode seasons. If you're not interested in plot, then you'll certainly be happy with the animation. The battles are fun to watch, and for the first time, destruction and chaos actually FEEL like destruction and chaos. The animation certainly grew up along with the DigiDestined, and it's a treat. The characters are lovable in their own right, and all have unique personalities that keep things moving in a good direction. We're still getting used to the "new look" of all the grown up kids, and sometimes the design can be bothersome...but it's easy to overcome.

Should I watch it?

For everyone else, sure. We definitely recommend watching the first two seasons first though. It's a lot of time to invest, especially in an anime made for children, but this third season is definitely aimed at those who have grown up along with the franchise. If you're looking for a fun way to kill two hours than this is a good way to spend it. Introduce yourself to the series with this awesome continuation.
